Braywood 2nds travelled to Littlewick Green’s picturesque ground and picked up their first win of the season by a comfortable 9 wickets. Under grey skies and after heavy overnight rain winning the toss was important and Braywood duly did, asking Littlewick to bat on a green looking pitch.
Hasnad Bhatti opened the bowling and immediately signalled Braywood’s intent by firing in a quick first ball that reared up and hit opener Atkinson on his elbow in a fiery first over. Carter then came on at the other end and struck with his first ball, which was wide and looked like posing little threat; however, the batsman Roberts decided to try and defend it feathering an edge to the diving Oswald. Carter and Bhatti both kept the run rate low, and made inroads into the Littlewick line up. Bhatti managing to take one wicket and Carter again breaking through at the other end. The introduction of Zee Bhatti brought further wickets as he and Carter continued to apply the pressure. Carter’s fine spell brought the Braywood stalwart another 5 wicket haul, while Zee Bhatti and spin bowler Rob McDermott bagged 2 apiece. Fielding highlights included another great diving catch from Jas Singh and Colin Russell’s juggling catch at square leg. Only Armstrong and Lane offered any resistance for Littlewick who slumped to a disappointing 58 all out, including 6 ducks.
After a relaxed and leisurely tea, Braywood’s opening par of Stuart West and Colin Russell came out to bat looking to finish the job and make sure we all got home for the football results. Carrying on from last week’s strong start both looked in good nick, playing steady and assured with the odd boundary. Littlewick rotated their bowlers in an effort to get a wicket, and duly got their reward when Russell holed out on 16. Singh, hot on the heels of last week’s 65 came out to join West and despite a couple of scares both batsmen saw it through to get the 59 required off 20 Overs.
An excellent performance from Braywood in picking up new Captain Keith Oswald’s first victory, which built on last week’s solid draw. Again another fine performance in field for the side. Binfield up next for the mighty 2’s.
