Braywood returned to the Turnbull Ground after 2 away games looking to pick up a second win of the season against Coleshill. On a nice sunny day Braywood captain Keith Oswald lost his 3rd toss out of four and Coleshill elected to bat first.
Carter took the new ball, and was quickly amongst the wickets trapping opener Draycott LBW for a duck. Continually accurate bowling from Carter and the pace of Hasnad Bhatti never allowed the Coleshill batsmen to settle. More wickets fell with Bhatti picking up the other opener LBW for 19, and Carter getting Flack for 10 after Russell held onto a high one. A mix up then allowed McDermott to accuracy throw the ball in for a run out, and he followed this up by going on to pick up the wicket of Zohaib LBW, after both Safwan and Zee Bhatti had bowled tightly but for no reward. Coleshill found some resistance with a determined 47 from Watson, but he also fell to McDermott. Eventually Coleshill were all out for 158 off 48 Overs. Hasnad Bhatti and Stuart Phillips both picked up a wicket a piece, with the impressive McDermott chipping in with another 3 and Carter returning top figures of 4-19. This impressive display in the field had allowed Braywood to restrict Coleshill to a very gettable total.
After tea Braywood’s opening pair of West and Russell returned to the crease to try and establish a solid start for their team. As before this season both of them got in before Russell mishit a drive which went high in the air and he was caught. West, continuing his good early season form moved onto 26, before being bowled by a decent ball from Yasir which cut back sharply. Jas Singh and Dan Cox both started to build a partnership before Cox was unluckily run out at the non-strikers end after a Singh drive got tipped onto the stumps. Having ridden his luck on occasions, as well as playing some cracking shots Singh was himself also run out and Braywood were starting to feel a bit nervous on 114 for 4. The the lower order batmen were then sent scrambling for their pads after new batsman Phillips played on for a duck and Zee Bhatti soon followed with the score being 133 for 6. However, they needn’t have worried as the expansive Zee Bhatti and solid Safwan hit the remaining 26 runs needed to secure an important victory for their team.
A convincing victory for the mighty 2’s, who have won 2 and drawn 2 so far this season and find themselves in 3rd place in Division 4. Next week they travel to Amersham Hill for an important early season top of the table clash. Come on the 2’s!!
